The school is the district’s newest Innovation Network School, which is exempt from many district and state regulations.
Kindezi Academy will be located at Joyce Kilmer School 69, which The Mind Trust says had been one of the district’s lowest-performing schools. State law allows IPS and other districts to replace underperforming or underused schools with Innovation Network Schools.
The Mind Trust says in exchange the autonomy from regulation, Innovation Network Schools are held to the highest academic standards. Kindezi Academy, which will be a K-6 school, will be held accountable by the IPS board.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 4:00 Friday afternoon. IPS Superintendent Lewis Ferebee will join city and school officials for the event.
