Purdue University has been recognized as one of the top institutions in the world for the number of U.S. utility patents granted in 2015. A report from the National Academy of Inventors and the Intellectual Property Owners Association ranks Purdue 15th among universities worldwide.

The report says Purdue was issued 101 U.S. utility patents last year, compared to 93 in 2014. Purdue has jumped up on the list from previous years. The university was ranked 16th in 2014 and 27th in 2013.

"Our faculty, staff and student investigators are committed to making a lasting impact on people’s lives around the globe, and Purdue is dedicated to ensuring that their innovative scholarship is translated into cutting-edge products," said Suresh Garimella, executive vice president for research and partnerships at Purdue. "As a major international research institution, there is a sense of pride and excitement that we can play this important role by furthering innovations that can truly make a difference."

Indiana University was the only other institution in the state represented in the report. IU was ranked 43rd on the list with 47 patents issued last year.

The University of California, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University topped the 2015 list. You can view the full rankings below:
