Rossi Scores Big Pay Day
Indianapolis 500 winner Alexander Rossi earned more than $2.5 million for taking the checkered flag Sunday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Rossi is one of just a handful of rookies in the event’s 100-race history to finish first.
Twenty-seven of the 33 cars in the starting grid were running at the end of the race, which took just over three hours and averaged 166.6 miles per hour. Rossi beat Carlos Munoz by about 4.5 seconds, holding him off on a nearly-empty gas tank on the final three laps of the race. Defending champion Juan-Pablo Montoya finished in last place after contact early in the race put him on the sidelines.
