Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has named Anne Houtman vice president for academic affairs. For the past three years, she has been dean of the School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering at California State University, Bakersfield. Houtman also was head of the Thomas H. Gosnell School of Life Sciences at Rochester Institute of Technology from 2011-13. She earned a doctorate in zoology from the University of Oxford in 1991, after receiving a master’s degree in anthropology from the University of California Los Angeles in 1985 and a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Pomona College (California) in 1983. Houtman also attended Harvard University’s Institute for Management and Leadership in Education in 2015. She replaces Richard Stamper, who has been serving in the vice president’s role on an interim basis during the 2015-16 academic year. Stamper will return to the classroom as a professor of mechanical engineering and engineering management.
