Indianapolis-based Salesforce Marketing Cloud Chief Executive Officer Scott McCorkle will be this year's spring commencement address speaker at Ball State University. McCorkle graduated from Ball State in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in computer science.

The email marketing company was founded in 2000 in Indianapolis as ExactTarget. California-based parent Inc. (NYSE: CRM) acquired ExactTarget in 2013 for $2.5 billion. Soon after, McCorkle was promoted to CEO for the subsidiary. He started at ExactTarget in 2005, serving in several technology and strategy-related positions along the way.

Ball State Acting President Terry King says "we have closely followed the career of Scott McCorkle as he rose through the ranks to become one of the most influential executives in Indiana’s fast-growing technology sector. His passion for innovative products and technology, combined with his dedication to customer success, has been instrumental in building one of the world’s most powerful one-to-one digital marketing platforms."

McCorkle, who holds a master of business administration from Indiana University, also co-founded Mezzia Inc., served as IBM’s customer relationship management product group vice president and was vice president of Software Artistry. His experience also includes positions with BorgWarner Automotive's Technology Research Center and Eli Lilly and Co. (NYSE: LLY).

Last May’s commencement speaker at Ball State was Papa John's Pizza founder John Schnatter, 1983 graduate.
