The degree will cover areas such as tax planning, credit analysis and financial planning.
Bethel College cites the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which expects to see a 27 percent increase in financial planning careers by 2022. The degree was shaped in part through local connections to financial professionals in the Michiana area, giving students more opportunities for mentorships. Students will have to complete three internships as part of the program.
"The internship requirements are in three diverse areas of financial services – credit analysis, taxation and financial planning," says Aaron Schavey, associate professor of economics at Bethel. "This will give students exposure to various aspects of a career in financial services and make them a well-rounded candidate when they graduate from Bethel. In designing the major, we worked closely with representatives from the financial services industry to include classes that will best prepare students for a career in financial services."
Students will also have the chance to participate in Bethel’s business club, which regularly features local and national expert guest speakers for the business department.
