Mishawaka-based Franciscan Alliance has announced a major expansion to one of its hospitals. The health system has begun work on the $15.3 million project at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health – Crawfordsville.

Franciscan says $10.4 million of the investment will go toward a new emergency department at the hospital. Officials have begun meeting with architects to plan the expansion and hope to break ground in late February or early March.

The emergency department project is expected to be completed in December. The entire expansion is expected to be completed by April 2017.

During the announcement of the expansion hospital officials also touted recently completed and ongoing improvements. Officials showed off the new location of the hospital’s cardiac rehab department and new digital radiology suite. The physical/occupational therapy department will also be returning to the hospital soon after moving from its current location in downtown Crawfordsville.
