Officials have dedicated a nearly $6 million solar power project in Crawfordsville. The 3-megawatt park is the sixth from the Carmel-based Indiana Municipal Power Agency and its member communities this year.

The Crawfordsville park is equal to the largest to date for the utility. A project in Peru was also 3-megawatts. The company has five others statewide in Frankton, Rensselaer, Richmond, Peru and Tell City and has plans to open three more by year’s end.

IMPA says its goal is to have a solar park in each of its 60 member communities. President and Chief Executive Officer Raj Rao says "IMPA began our solar park program last year to further diversity our power supply and bring the benefits of renewable energy to our communities. The addition of more solar parks not only provides an educational impact to IMPA’s member communities throughout the state, but serves to bolster our already diverse portfolio, reinforcing our goal to provide municipally-owned utilities with a power supply that is low-cost, reliable and environmentally responsible."

Around 330,000 Hoosiers receive power from an IMPA member community.
