EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana will host their first Innovation Challenge event Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Ivy Tech Community College. Innovation Challenge is an opportunity for students to strengthen their entrepreneurial skills. Throughout an in-class program, a JA Volunteer guided students as they developed a start-up enterprise and business plan and learned how to conduct market research and identify and leverage competitive advantages. During the final classroom session, judges selected a winning business to compete in the Innovation Challenge event on April 11th.
Approximately 20 schools from throughout five counties within JASWIN’s service area will be represented at the event which is sponsored by Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana and Vuteq. A preliminary round of competition will begin at 9:00am. A roundtable discussion involving local entrepreneurs: Vicki Wiederkher, John Dunn, Bill Gillenwater, Amjad Manna and Blake Kollker will take place at 12:00pm. The top five teams will present their business plan at a final competition starting at 12:30pm.
All participating students in attendance at Innovation Challenge will be eligible for $50,000 worth of scholarships from the University of Evansville, University of Southern Indiana, and Ivy Tech Community College. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winning teams selected for their business plan along with other specialized group awards.
