Indianapolis, Ind. — An Indiana winery has won coveted Gold Medals at two prestigious wine competitions.
The Easley Winery in Downtown Indianapolis captured Gold Medals at the recent San Diego International Wine Competition for its popular Reggae Red, and the new Sweet Tulip Red. Taking home additional honors, the winery won a Double Gold Medal at the 2015 Florida State Fair International Wine and Grape Juice Competition, for Sweet Tulip Pink Moscato.
These Gold Medals continue illuminating Indiana's reputation as a producer of premium wines that outshine others. The San Diego International Wine Competition is one of the oldest wine competitions in America. Begun in 1983, it brings together judges from throughout California and wines from around the world. Easley Winery has notably taken home San Diego Gold in previous years.
The Florida State Fair International Wine Competition celebrated its 27th year in January. Organized by the Florida Grape Growers Association, it brings together more than 1000 wines in various price ranges for tasting.
Second generation winery owner Mark Easley is justly proud of the recognition of his wines. “Our focus is and has always been, creating wines that people enjoy and want to share. This 41-year effort continues bringing us national recognition. And overall it brings attention to the great wines originating in Indiana.”
Easley Reggae Red is the 7th best selling bottle of wine in the entire state of Indiana. It tastes of “fresh, jammy strawberry and subtle spices,” according to Mark Easley. He describes Sweet Tulip Pink Moscato as tasting of tropical fruit, and Sweet Tulip Red offers black stone fruit and hints of raspberry. These wines are best served chilled, Easley notes.
“We make a wide range of dry red and white wines, many of them Gold Medal winners, and a great Champagne,” Easley adds. “We've been lucky to do this since 1974 and have really found our audience with wine lovers.”
