House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-88) says it could be a late night for the General Assembly. The House and Senate are set today for second or third reading on several hotly-debated bills. The publisher of IndyPolitics.org says overall, the session continues to be a “fourth-quarter football game that involves three-dimensional chess.” Abdul-Hakim Shabazz says the big storyline is the two-year budget, and more specifically, what will be allocated to education. Senate Bill 62 passed unanimously this morning. It calls to cut the expected duration of the ISTEP exams by three hours. It's now set to go back to Senate today for final confirmation, then be rushed to Governor Mike Pence's desk. ISTEP exams begin statewide Wednesday. The Indiana Department of Education has already directed teachers to administer a shortened version.
