Lake Area United Way has named Lisa Daugherty president and chief executive officer. She most recently served as director of marketing and development for Merrillville-based TradeWinds Services Inc. December 11, 2014

News Release

GRIFFITH, Ind. – The Board of Directors of Lake Area United Way is pleased to announce the appointment of Lisa M. Daugherty as its new President & CEO. Daugherty will succeed Lou Martinez, who recently announced his retirement after being at the helm of the organization since 1995.

“Lisa has a proven track record for success. She possesses everything we've been looking for to guide the organization; strong leadership skills, an extensive background in Marketing & Development and a passion for the Lake County community,” said Board Chair Curtis Whittaker, President of Whittaker & Co, PLLC. Whittaker added, “All of us look forward to working with her as we take the important work of Lake Area United Way to its next level of excellence.”

The search process was extensive with over 300 applications received. The search committee has worked diligently over the past several months to select the best candidate, ultimately recommending Daugherty's appointment.

Daugherty has most recently served as Director of Marketing & Development for TradeWinds Services, Inc. in Merrillville. She also held positions within The Times Media Company focusing in Sales, Human Resources, Marketing and Advertising. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication and Creative Arts and a Master of Arts Degree in Communication from Purdue University Calumet. She also holds a certificate as a Senior Professional in Human Resources.

In her new role, Daugherty will be responsible for the leadership and management of the organization. She will work with the Board to finalize the next strategic plan and priorities focusing in the areas of education, financial stability and health. She will direct a staff of nine working in development and community impact.

“I am very excited to be taking on this role as President and CEO for Lake Area United Way,” Daugherty said. “I look forward to continuing our work with community partners across Lake County – businesses, other nonprofits, volunteers and stakeholders,” she added.

In the wider landscape, Daugherty has held positions on the Boards of TradeWinds Services, Inc., Crossroads Chamber of Commerce, Food Bank of NWI and Pink Ribbon Society.

She will assume her new role on January 5, 2015.
