Purdue, Ivy Tech Create Transfer Program

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Ivy Tech Community College and Purdue University's College of Engineering have signed off on a transfer agreement that creates a path for Ivy Tech pre-engineering students to continue their studies towards a bachelor's degree in one of two engineering disciplines at Purdue. The agreement joins several transfer agreements between the two schools, including the innovative Pathway to Purdue agriculture transfer program. The statewide transfer program becomes effective beginning the Fall 2015 semester.
“Our goal is to continue to develop statewide transfer agreements to make it easier and more affordable for our students to transfer and complete their bachelor’s degree,” said Dr. Mary Ostrye, Senior Vice President and Provost at Ivy Tech. “This agreement represents a great move forward as we continue to partner with four-year institutions across the state to create seamless transfer opportunities for our students. We are grateful for a strong partnership with Purdue University and look forward to creating additional transfer agreements to further enhance career pathways.”
“Purdue University's College of Engineering is constantly looking for ways to partner with other institutions of higher education, especially in the State of Indiana,” said Dr. Leah H. Jamieson, the John A. Edwardson Dean of Engineering. “Increasing the number of STEM graduates is crucial to the success of this state and the nation. Partnering with Ivy Tech provides another valuable pathway for the students of Indiana to gain access to high quality engineering programs. I would like to thank Professors Larry Nies and Garrett Jeong for their hard work with Dr. Todd Roswarski, Dr. Candace Vibbert, Purdue's Department of Mathematics/College of Science, and the College of Technology in developing these articulation agreements. It is the College of Engineering's goal to expand our partnerships with Ivy Tech and other institutions of higher learning in the State of Indiana.”
Ivy Tech students who meet the requirements can seamlessly continue their education into Purdue's civil engineering or environmental and ecological engineering programs. They must complete an associate of science degree in pre-engineering with a cumulative 3.0 or higher grade point average overall and in science, mathematics and engineering courses. Candidates must also meet admission requirements for the specific Purdue degree programs. Purdue will reserve up to five admission slots per program for Ivy Tech graduates. More slots could be provided to qualified students as capacity becomes available.
“This agreement is a milestone in providing transfer opportunities for our students,” said Dr. Todd Roswarski, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at Ivy Tech's Lafayette campus. “Pre-engineering graduates who qualify for transfer will be able to continue their studies at one of the top engineering schools in the nation and worldwide. We are pleased that our partners at Purdue continue to recognize the excellence of Ivy Tech’s curriculum and instruction.”
Ivy Tech offers the associate of science in pre-engineering at seven of its 32 campuses statewide, including Indianapolis, Lafayette, South Bend, Warsaw, Fort Wayne, Valparaiso and Evansville. In the most recent U.S. News and World Report rankings of undergraduate programs, Purdue's College of Engineering ranked 9th in the nation.
