Four jobs events are set for next week in northern Indiana. They include a fair for people with disabilities and a hiring event featuring multiple manufacturers. October 17, 2014

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – WorkOne is sponsoring a free-of-charge asset fair dedicated to Hoosiers with disabilities who want to work but might be unaware of information, ideas, programs and vendors, all of whom are ready and willing to assist individuals with disabilities who desire to find employment.

What: “See What's Possible” ASSET FAIR on INFORMATION & RESOURCES for People with Disabilities who want to work in Northern Indiana.

Who: All interested Region 2 residents

Where: Kroc Center, 900 W. Western Avenue, South Bend.

When: Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, from 1:00-to-6:30 p.m.

Details: A number of Region 2 residents with disabilities would like to work and contribute to the community, but a roadblock has been scant access to information and resources that would help them find and maintain employment in north-central Indiana. For instance, how many people are aware that for every $1.00 that an employer invests in disability-related accommodations, that firm saves $34.00 in costs related to workers' compensation, insurance and training expenses. The event includes, among others topics,

VENDOR FAIR – Companies and agencies will offer information on assistive devices, financial literacy, job coaching, and other topics.

PANEL DISCUSSIONS – Topics will include “The Inclusive Culture,” “Why It Works to Work,” and “Financial Literacy.” Employers will describe skills they seek in workers; individuals who have thrived will discuss keys to workplace success, such as surmounted barriers; and experts will discuss necessities for financial health.

KEYNOTE – Noted inspirational speaker Justin Maust, CEO/President, Leader Legacy, Inc., Mishawaka, will remind the audience that every person has barriers – yet some succeed and soar while others are unable to move forward. To gain success, a person needs to “see what’s possible,” and Justin will explain as he motivates.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – WorkOne is pleased to announce the SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICE EXPERIENCE PROGRAM (SCSEP) will hold an application day for eligible individuals on October 22nd at the Elkhart WorkOne Center.

What: SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICE EXPERIENCE PROGRAM (SCSEP) application day.

Who: Open to ELIGIBLE SENIORS ONLY

Where: WorkOne Elkhart County, 430 Waterfall Drive, Elkhart, 46516.

When: Wednesday, October 22nd, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Details: Like other seniors nationally, some Elkhart County residents age 55 and older are delaying retire-ment or returning to work to meet basic necessities. For some folks, however, accomplishing current workplace tasks efficiently calls for boosting their employment skills as well as job-hunting abilities.

The SCSEP program helps seniors not only boost their resume-writing skills, sharpen interviewing abilities, practice submitting online applications as well as conducting job searches, but also places them in minimum-wage, on-site training efforts in nonprofit workplaces, allowing them to learn and hone marketable job skills.

To become involved in SCSEP, an applicant must meet the following eligibility criteria:

-at least age 55;

-unemployed;

-having limited income; and

-must be ready, willing and able to search for employment.

“In the last ten years,” said WorkOne's Peggy Miller, SCSEP director, “several thousand low-income seniors nationwide have found employment through our services.” Hoosiers interested in attending the event, please call Peggy Miller, 574-855-5330.
