Alcoa to Mark Opening of Lafayette Expansion

LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann will join executives from Alcoa, a global leader in lightweight metals technology, engineering and manufacturing, today at 3:45 p.m. for a ribbon cutting ceremony for the company's aluminum-lithium cast house in Lafayette.
In 2012, Alcoa announced plans to expand operations in Lafayette, building a 115,000 square-foot facility adjacent to its existing extrusion plant, creating 75 new jobs. Alcoa's Lafayette cast house can produce more than 20,000 metric tons (44 million pounds) of aluminum-lithium annually-making it the largest facility of its kind in the world. The facility will serve the aerospace industry.
This is the second major aerospace investment by Alcoa in Indiana. Earlier this year, Governor Mike Pence joined Alcoa executives to announce the company's plans to expand its operations in La Porte, investing $100 million and creating up to 329 new jobs. The La Porte facility will expand Alcoa’s reach from structural engine components for business and regional jets to large commercial aircraft, including narrow- and wide-body and military airplanes.
Founded more than 125 years ago, Alcoa employs approximately 60,000 people in 30 countries. In Indiana alone, the company employs more than 3,200 associates, more than in any other state, at three locations: La Porte, Lafayette and Newburgh, just east of Evansville.
