The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority says passenger traffic so far this year is up from 2013. The group says traffic through Fort Wayne International Airport is up 7.6 percent, or 30,000 passengers, compared to last year. September 22, 2014

News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority reports that passenger traffic at Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) is up 7.6% over 2013. Year-to-date, 422,786 passengers have traveled through the airport, almost 30,000 more than last year.

Beginning in October, FWA’s passenger capacity will increase by 21.8% over October 2013, or an extra 1,486 new seats leaving the market per week. This added capacity is the result of new service to Philadelphia and Charlotte provided by American Airlines, as well as increased capacity in two existing markets – Chicago via United and Atlanta via Delta.

“As our traffic continues to grow throughout the year, our staff continues to look for new ways to enhance the passenger experience at FWA,” said Scott Hinderman, Executive Director of Airports for the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority. “We hope travelers see the value in using their local airport rather than sending that economic activity to another community.”

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures in August was 21. Service was offered to 10 nonstop markets: Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Minneapolis, Orlando/Sanford, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fort Myers/Punta Gorda, Phoenix/Mesa, and Myrtle Beach.
