A well-known Indianapolis-based restaurant is expanding to the food court at a central Indiana shopping center. Shapiro's Delicatessen is set to begin serving its Kosher-style favorites at the Fashion Mall in November. September 5, 2014

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Simon, a leading global retail real estate company, has announced that Shapiro's Delicatessen will be the latest unique restaurant to open in the Fashion Café at the Fashion Mall at Keystone.

An Indianapolis icon since 1905, Shapiro's is renowned for its authentic, homemade Kosher-style delicacies. The new location at the Fashion Mall at Keystone, the region's premier shopping destination, will also include a “Twisted Traditions” menu, which will include updated sandwiches and other dishes.

“Shapiro's is creating a casual restaurant to meet a growing demand in our area for fresh food prepared with local ingredients that caters to the business lunch crowd as well as families looking for a great meal,” said Brian Shapiro, president of Max Shapiro, Inc. “The new restaurant reinforces Shapiro's commitment to serving the Indianapolis metropolitan community with the high-quality, delicious Kosher-style food for which we are famous.”

Shoppers will be able to access the new eatery, which will be located adjacent to Tesla in the Fashion Café, both through the interior of the mall, as well as through an external entrance, making it a convenient stop for both mall shoppers and the lunchtime business crowd.

“The high level of daytime traffic through the Fashion Mall at Keystone was a big factor in determining where we would open our new restaurant,” said Shapiro.

“The Fashion Mall at Keystone has made a name for itself by offering our shoppers several unique-to-market dining options, many of them locally based,” said Patrick Moyers, general manager at the Fashion Mall at Keystone. “Shapiro's is a natural addition to these offerings, and we are very excited to welcome them to the Simon family.”

Shapiro's flagship restaurant, located at 808 S. Meridian St., and the Indianapolis International Airport location, operating at gate B15, will continue regular operation.

About Shapiro's Delicatessen

Shapiro's first opened its doors in 1905 as a grocery store selling kosher deli meats cooked on-premises. Growing into a restaurant and delicatessen in the mid-1930's, Shapiro's remains an Indianapolis icon and continues to serve homemade Jewish-style delicacies, enormous sandwiches of house-cooked kosher deli meats and baked on- premises bagels, pastries and desserts.
