Vincennes University has announced a scholarship program offering in-state tuition prices for several counties in Illinois. The discount will apply to students in Crawford, Lawrence, Richland, and Wabash counties. May 16, 2014

News Release

VINCENNES, Ind. – Vincennes University today announced a new scholarship for students residing in four Illinois counties near Vincennes. The scholarship, which will go into effect during the fall semester, 2014, will mean that those Illinois students will pay the same tuition rate as in-state students.

“Vincennes University takes great pride in being the most affordable residential college in Indiana. Now we extend this benefit to students in Crawford, Lawrence, Richland, and Wabash counties in Illinois,” said VU President Dick Helton.

VU has long offered a tuition discount to students from these four Illinois counties, however, the new scholarship program represents substantial additional savings for students. For example, under the previous tuition plan, students in these counties would have paid $257.62 per credit hour this fall. This will now be reduced to $164.74 per credit hour, representing a savings of $92.88 per credit hour. The average full-time student will save $1,393.20 per semester or $2,786.40 per year.

“We have welcomed a large number of students from southern Illinois for many years who have been attracted by the diversity and quality of our programs as well as our rich campus life. We look forward to welcoming many more students who will benefit from this new scholarship,” Helton said.

“All of these counties are important to the economic health of our region.

That is another reason we are delighted to initiate this scholarship. It will help students and boost the availability of a well-trained workforce for the region’s business and industry,” Helton said.

The scholarship applies to both part-time and full-time students from the four Illinois counties. Currently enrolled students from these counties will also see their tuition reduced beginning with the fall semester.

Students do not need to apply for the scholarship since it will automatically be granted based on residency.

Last year, 142 students from Crawford, Lawrence, Richland, and Wabash counties in Illinois attended VU's Vincennes Campus.
