Plans are moving forward to develop a shell building at the site of the former military storage site in Vermillion County. The Newport Chemical Depot Reuse Authority and Terre Haute-based Garmong Development Company LLC are creating a joint venture that aims to complete the facility by mid-2015. May 1, 2014

News Release

CLINTON, Ind. – The Newport Chemical Depot Reuse Authority, with the full support of the Vermillion County Economic Development Council, has executed and issued a formal letter of intent to Indiana based Garmong Development Company, LLC, creating a joint venture to design, finance, and construct a new 50,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art shell building on approximately 31 acres (expandable to 200,000 sq. ft.).

Designed to support advanced manufacturing and logistics operations for companies seeking immediate access to markets easily served by 4 lane Indiana State Highway 63 and Interstate I-74 , the facility is forecasted to be 100 percent complete by mid-summer 2015.

The new facility will be constructed of precast concrete to a clear height of 32'. The expansion wall will be constructed of state-of-the-art metal sandwich panels. Column bays will have a minimum spacing of 50' x 50'. Site asphalt, sidewalks, drainage, and landscaping will complement the efficient, flexible, and modern design. All utilities will be stubbed up inside the shell facility to facilitate immediate access.

Vermillion Rise Mega Park boasts 3,425 acres of prime industrial development real estate, with huge utility capacities (example: more than 100 million gallons per day of water capacity), including water, sewer, natural gas, electricity, and fiber optics.

Vermillion Rise is one of the most unique mega sites in the world. The single-owner site covers 7,155 acres (11 sq. mi.) in Vermillion County, just south of Newport, IN. The Mega Park's allocated land uses achieve a near 50/50 split between natural and built areas, with abundant parkland, natural and open spaces, agriculture and forestry surrounding areas designated for business and technology, conference and support facilities and highway-oriented commercial development.

The Mega Park has been created on the site of a deactivated U.S. Army Depot. It is surrounded on all sides by agricultural fields and woodlands, isolating it from population areas and providing a measure of security, yet it is close to all major transportation routes.
