Indianapolis-based EnerDel Inc. has announced a long-term contract with a company in the Philippines. The deal involves supplying battery packs to GerWeiss Motors Corp. to convert hundreds of fossil fuel-powered tricycles into “E-Trikes.” April 29, 2014

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – EnerDel, Inc., a leader in lithium-ion energy storage systems, has entered into a long-term agreement to supply battery packs to GerWeiss Motors Corporation for installation into its electric tricycles, or 'E-Trikes,' in the Philippines. The program, initiated in 2010, seeks to convert over 500 fossil-fuel powered vehicles on the resort island of Boracay into E-Trikes by 2016.

EnerDel offers a 48V, 3kWh Li-ion battery pack with battery management systems (BMS). The EnerDel packs will provide a running time of 4-5 hours on one charge, and can be fully recharged in about one hour. The EnerDel pack can also be swapped out with fully charged packs at GerWeiss charging stations around the island, allowing for a continuous usage model for drivers. The EnerDel packs are designed and built in Greenfield, Indiana.

“EnerDel is extremely excited to work together with GerWeiss Motors Corporation on this ambitious initiative to make public transportation in the Philippines more environmentally conscious,” says Michael Canada, Interim CEO and COO at EnerDel.

“We are confident that with the full support of EnerDel, the vision of Mayor John Yap to make Boracay Island the first all electric vehicle community in the world, starting from the E-Trikes, will be realized in the next few years. Further, this same E-Trike program can be replicated all over the Philippines and possibly in our neighboring countries,” states Sean Gerard G. Villoria, President and CEO of GerWeiss Motor Corporation.
