Indianapolis, Ind. — Sycamore School will be competing this weekend April 26 – 27) in the National Science Bowl Finals in Washington DC. Competition for Sycamore begins Saturday morning and continues through Sunday.
Sycamore earned the right to represent Indiana (and an all-expense paid trip to the competition) with a win at the regionals at Indiana State University in March.
The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science manages the National Science Bowl finals competition. More than 225,000 students have participated in this annual competition since it was established in 1991.
Alex Gu (7th grade) captains a team that also includes Sycamore Middle School students Michelle Shen (8th), Jay Maturi (8th), and Aidan Sher (6th). Middle School Science Teacher David Schuth (contact him via email at dschuth@sycamoreschool.org) is in his third year as coach. Sycamore has been to nationals once previously, in 2011.
Teams compete in a question-and-answer format in which they solve technical problems and answer questions on a range of science disciplines.
