INDIANAPOLIS (April 23, 2014) – The Richard G. Lugar Center for Renewable Energy and the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) announced today that the topic of the 2014 Spring Forum will be “Microgrid Interconnections and Energy Storage.”
Scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, the forum will take place from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with breakfast and networking at 8 a.m., at the IUPUI Campus Center, Event Room 450, 420 University Boulevard, in Indianapolis. This event will bring together industry leaders from business, government and academia to provide a dynamic, multi-faceted exploration of key issues surrounding distributed power sources and high-density energy storage as well as their impact on grid stability.
“As distributed generation sources such as wind turbines, solar panels and fuels cells become less expensive to use, businesses – and even residences – are installing these power sources to save money and reduce their carbon footprint,” said Peter J. Schubert, Director of the Lugar Center for Renewable Energy.
The forum will address concerns over power cleanliness, maintenance responsibility and up-time as well as challenges in technology assessment, system architecture and grid interconnect faced by facility managers who install renewable energy sources and energy storage capacity.
Consumer Counselor David Stippler, from the Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (an organization that represents ratepayers), will kick off the forum with a presentation on “The Challenge of Distributed Energy Resources.” Ken Geisler, Vice President of Strategy at Siemens Smart Grid Division-North America, Infrastructure and Cities Sector, will serve as keynote speaker at the luncheon. His talk will include real-world examples of microgrid installations and the subsequent positive impact on efficiencies and economics.
Registration for the Forum currently is open. The registration fee, $99 for business professionals and $40 for students, includes breakfast, lunch and parking in the adjacent Vermont Street parking garage.About the Richard G. Lugar Center for Renewable Energy:
