A bipartisan group of Hoosier business leaders has launched an organization designed to boost commerce in the state through a “pro-growth” agenda in Washington. The Main Street Growth & Opportunity Coalition will push for tax and immigration reforms, expanded trade opportunities and provide feedback to local government and citizens on national policies. Indiana is the ninth state to join a national effort started by AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) Chairman Randall Stephenson. During an interview that will air this week on Inside INdiana Business Television, Indianapolis-based Career Consultants OI Partners Inc. Chief Executive Officer Patty Prosser and Fishers-based OfficeWorks CEO Tom O'Neil discuss the organization's goals. Prosser says the coalition was created as a result the 2013 federal government shutdown.

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Main Street Growth & Opportunity Coalition, an alliance of businesses, local trade associations and concerned individuals committed to supporting a common sense, pro-growth agenda for America today announced its launch in Indiana.

“When I speak to our members about what Washington can do to help them expand their businesses and create jobs, they say they need certainty,” said Patty Prosser, Chairman of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and CEO of Career Consultants OI Partners. “Our tax and immigration systems are broken and reforming them will provide this certainty.”

The group will support comprehensive tax and immigration reform and expanding trade opportunities and will educate federal lawmakers and state residents about the economic benefits of these policies and illustrate the consequences of inaction.

“I know that most small businesses, including ours struggle under the existing tax system,” said Tom O'Neil, president of Officeworks and former Indianapolis Hispanic Chamber of Commerce president. “The tax code is too complex and burdensome, especially for small start-ups.”

“Our members, of course, also want more customers for their products.” Prosser added. “Opening up new trade avenues for them will achieve this goal. Congress should also streamline the process for negotiating and passing trade agreements.”
