High winds have delayed the move of the largest section of the Milton-Madison Bridge. Indiana and Kentucky transportation officials report the next phase could begin “this weekend at the earliest.” The nearly 2,500-foot portion of the span above the Ohio River has been moved approximately one-third of the necessary distance. News Release

MADISON, Ind. and MILTON, Ken. (April 9, 2014) – The slide of the Milton-Madison Bridge was halted today due to high winds. The bridge moved 16 feet, which is approximately 30 percent of the total length it needs to go in order to rest on its permanent, refurbished piers. The total slide length is 55 feet.

The slide began today shortly after 8:00 a.m. and stopped before 4:00 p.m.

It will resume when weather conditions allow, which would be this weekend at the earliest.
