News Release

Indianapolis, Ind. — Four teams have advanced after first-round action of the 2014 Deaconess GLVC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament and will begin preparing for the tournament quarterfinals, which will be held March 7 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind. Due to No. 12 Illinois Springfield's 78-72 upset win at No. 5 Truman State, the three other tournament teams were moved up one position from their original seed announced Thursday.

The 12th-seeded Prairie Stars earned their first-ever win in the conference tournament and now take over the No. 8 seed, which pits them against top-seeded and GLVC West Division Champion Drury. The Panthers, who earned a 66-59 win at UIS on Feb. 8, will begin the defense of their conference crown at 2:30 p.m. CT on Friday.

After an 86-78 home win over Maryville on Sunday, Southern Indiana (22-5, 13-5) moves to the No. 5 seed in the tournament and now faces No. 4 Lewis (21-5, 13-5), which defeated the Screaming Eagles 73-62 in Romeoville, Ill., on Jan. 23. USI will meet the Flyers on Friday at 12 p.m. CT.

No. 6 Bellarmine (21-6, 12-6) will now face No. 3 and co-GLVC East Division Champion Indianapolis (23-3, 15-3) in the 8:30 p.m. CT nightcap on Friday, following an 82-69 victory over No. 10 William Jewell Sunday. The tournament contest will be the rubber match between the divisional rivals as Bellarmine won 96-81 at UIndy on Feb. 22, after the Greyhounds defeated the Knights in Louisville 81-79 on Jan. 16.

No. 7 Missouri-St. Louis enters the quarterfinals set to square off against second-seeded and co-GLVC East Division Champion UW-Parkside (22-5, 15-3) at 6 p.m. CT on Friday. The Rangers defeated the Tritons 89-76 on Jan. 9 in St. Louis.
