Indianapolis-based Bose Public Affairs Group LLC has named John Whitaker senior policy adviser. He recently retired from Citizens Energy Group after 25 years. March 3, 2014

News Release

Indianapolis, Ind. – Prominent Indiana business leader John Whitaker today announced he will join Bose Public Affairs Group LLC effective March 1st as senior policy adviser following his retirement in January from Citizens Energy Group where he worked for 25 years. Whitaker also will join the law firm Bose McKinney & Evans LLP where he will serve of counsel.

Whitaker concluded his extensive career at Citizens as senior vice president, chief legal and compliance officer. He started with the utility in 1989 as director of governmental affairs after serving as special counsel for Indiana Governor Robert Orr.

“Indianapolis is home to many fine leaders who have a wealth of experience, but few can claim the reputation that John has earned within the business and legal community,” said Douglas R. Brown, managing principal of Bose Public Affairs Group.

“We are proud that John has chosen to extend his career after Citizens by joining our firm,” said Jeffrey Gaither, managing partner of Bose McKinney & Evans. “His understanding of strategic management and of the utilities industry will complement our existing services and be an immediate benefit for our clients.”

Whitaker received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Ball State University before he earned his juris doctorate from Indiana University.

In 1985, Governor Orr named Whitaker a Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest state governmental honor bestowed upon a civilian for service to the State of Indiana.

He is currently a member of the board of directors at Indiana Energy Association and Indiana Legal Foundation, and serves on the Ethics Committee of the IU Health Medical Staff. Previously, Whitaker served on the boards of several community organizations, such as American Red Cross, Ruth Lilly, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, the Boys & Girls Club of Indianapolis and the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization (IOPO).

In addition, Whitaker is an adjunct professor at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis where he teaches undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) in courses on law and public policy.

He and his wife Susan reside in Indianapolis. They have two children, Sarah and David.
