United Way of Central Indiana has named Beth Stroh education director. She succeeds Ted Maple, who left last year to become chief executive officer of Indianapolis-based Day Nursery Association. January 27, 2014

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Beth Stroh has been hired by United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI) to lead its education priority that focuses on early childhood and school-age programs and policies. UWCI has committed nearly $13 million to ensure that children have opportunities to acquire the academic and social skills to succeed in school and life.

Stroh fills the vacancy created with the departure of Ted Maple in July 2013 to become chief executive officer of Day Nursery Association, a United Way agency.

Stroh's experience includes a variety of education and community development roles. She was an elementary and middle school teacher in Washington Township (Indianapolis) and Bartholomew County (Columbus, IN).

As a member of the Modern Red Schoolhouse design team Stroh has also worked with school districts across the country on school improvement efforts. She helped to establish the first public preschool program in Columbus and was a founding board member of kidscommons, the Columbus Children's Museum.

Stroh's corporate experience includes leadership of the learning and development team as well as community development and philanthropy programs with two financial institutions, First Financial Bank and Irwin Financial Corporation. She is active in economic development, financial stability and education-related initiatives in Columbus, where she resides.

Stroh earned her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees at Butler University in education and English, and her doctorate in educational leadership, administration and foundations from Indiana State University.
