More details are expected this morning following a deadly grocery store shooting last night in Elkhart. Investigators are planning a news conference where they are expected to identify the three victims, including the shooter. The Elkhart Truth reports Indiana State Police are leading the investigation and provided some details during an initial briefing a few hours ago.

South Bend-based Martin's Super Markets has taken to its Facebook page to thank the Elkhart community for thoughts and prayers following a deadly store shooting.

Indiana State Police say a gunman killed a store employee and a customer last night before he was shot and killed by an Elkhart City Police officer.

The shooting prompted several area businesses to be put on lockdown for several hours.

Police say they heard a gunshot when entering the store and engaged a suspect they say pointed his gun at them.

The officers shot and killed the suspect.

An investigation by the Indiana State Police is ongoing and the police are reviewing surveillance footage of the incident.

The publication reports Elkhart City Police turn over officer-involved shooting investigations to the state police.
