Greenfield-based Irving Materials Inc. has purchased an out-of-state concrete business. The deal expands the building materials suppliers' presence in Kentucky and involves W.T. Congleton Co.'s production staff and its Lexington plant. January 9, 2014

News Release

GREENFIELD, Ind. – Irving Materials, Inc., a construction industry material supplier and contractor, announced it acquired W.T. Congleton Co., a Lexington, Ky.-based ready mix concrete supplier. Irving Materials will immediately integrate W.T. Congleton's entire production staff and Lexington plant operations into its IMI Concrete division. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Headquartered in suburban Indianapolis, IMI Concrete has operated in Kentucky for decades

and has more than 45 concrete plants in the state, including ten in the greater Lexington-Frankfort area.

Founded in 1915, W.T. Congleton was a third-generation family business that installed Lexington's first central mix concrete plant.

“Through this acquisition, IMI is now fully integrated in the Lexington market and in a very strong position to support local customers,” says IMI South Division President Kevin Swaidner.

“Our first priority as we begin this new era is to ensure we not only maintain, but build upon, the many customer relationships W.T. Congleton has established during its distinguished history.

“With our broad scope of products and services, IMI Concrete will be able to continue to serve the customers who have relied on W.T. Congleton for their ready mix concrete needs.”

Known throughout the greater Lexington construction market for its concrete mix designs, W.T. Congleton's Laco Road plant in Lexington will continue to be managed by company veteran Elizabeth Reid, with additional local sales and operational support by IMI Concrete representatives Andrew Wright, Bret King and Eddie Webster.
