INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – AIT Laboratories (AIT) announced today the appointment of D. Craig Brater, M.D., current president of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine, and the recently-retired Dean of the Indiana University School of Medicine, to the AIT board of directors. Brater's clinical background and expert knowledge of health systems will be an invaluable asset as AIT continues to build its portfolio of medication monitoring and toxicology testing products and expands into new markets. Brater's appointment increases the board's size to seven.

As the Dean of the IU School of Medicine, he led an unparalleled expansion of research and innovation, and as the director of a major healthcare system, he helped manage the stresses of healthcare reform. Dr. Brater's years of clinical, research and academic experience come as a welcome addition to the AIT Board,” said R. Matthew Neff, Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of AIT.

Brater spent the last 27 years filling multiple vital roles at Indiana University. For the past 13 years, Dr. Brater served as Dean of the Indiana University School of Medicine, the second largest medical school in the United States. He also served as the Vice President of Life Sciences of Indiana University, responsible for life sciences innovation throughout the IU system. Prior to his career at Indiana University, Brater served in various capacities at the University of California at San Francisco and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
Brater earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Duke University and went on to receive his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine.
Brater is currently a member of the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT) and the American College of Physicians. Until his retirement, he served as the Chairman of the Board of BioCrossroads, the public-private life sciences partnership in Indiana. He is a member of the National Institutes of Health and previously served as President of U.S. Pharmacopeia.
