INDOT to Cut Ribbon on Bypass

NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation will stage a ribbon cutting event to celebrate completion of Phase I construction for the U.S. 50 Bypass project at North Vernon. Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann will be joined by public officials, INDOT personnel and contractor representatives at next Tuesday's 1 p.m. ceremony.
The ribbon cutting will take place on U.S. 50's new pavement located north and east of Base Road, near C.R. 400W, on the west end of this $25 million Major Moves project.
-The Jennings County High School Band will play.
-Maj. Gen. Omer Tooley and Muscatatuck Urban Training Center will participate.
-The public is invited.
INDOT advises attendees to arrive 15 to 20 minutes in advance of Tuesday's 1 p.m. scheduled event. Motor vehicles will be parked on the new U.S. 50 lanes – inside the barricades at Base Road. Once the ceremony concludes, Lt. Gov. Ellspermann will kick off a caravan tour of the 4 1/2 miles of new roadway.
Inclement weather could relocate the ribbon cutting ceremony to the Park Theatre Civic Center, 25 N. Madison Avenue, in North Vernon. A decision to move the event would not be made until late in the day on Monday or early Tuesday.
