INDIANAPOLIS – World champion Joey Chestnut and other top Major League Eaters (MLE) will compete on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at 3 p.m. for the title of Shrimp Cocktail-Eating Champion of the World at The World Famous St. Elmo Shrimp Cocktail Eating Championship—Located at the Meijer Tail Greater Party on Georgia Street.
The event will take place before the Buckeyes of Ohio State and the Spartans of Michigan State face off in the third annual Big Ten Football Championship Game at Lucas Oil Stadium.
“On the same day as the Big Ten Football Championship, fans will be able to experience the ultimate eating contest,” said Craig Huse, co-proprietor of St. Elmo Steak House. “It will be staggering to see how many pounds of shrimp that the eaters can devour while experiencing the sinus-clearing, head rush imparted by our St. Elmo Cocktail Sauce.”
Eaters will have eight minutes to consume as much shrimp cocktail as possible. However, competitors may be tempted to slow down due to the fiery, horseradish-laden heat packed in St. Elmo’s legendary cocktail sauce, which was deemed the world’s spiciest food by a Travel Channel writer. Since 1902, the legendary appetizer has collected a legion of well-known fans including Neil Patrick Harris, Tony Dungy and comedian Jimmy Fallon.
Joey Chestnut is expected to set a shrimp cocktail-eating world record, having recently set world records in Twinkies, hard-boiled eggs, ice cream and ribs. In addition to the title of Shrimp Cocktail-Eating Champion of the World, at stake is a $2,000 cash purse, with $1,000 going to the winner, and $500, $300 and $200 going to the second, third and fourth place finishers, respectively.

The third annual Big Ten Football Championship Game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, with kick-off set for 8:17 p.m. EST. The Championship Game, featuring the champion of the Legends Division facing the champion of the Leaders Division, will be broadcast nationally on FOX. The winner earns the Big Ten Championship and a chance to play in one of two postseason games hosted at historic Rose Bowl Stadium this season, the 100th Rose Bowl Game on January 1, 2014 or the BCS National Championship Game on January 6, 2014. Wisconsin won the first two Big Ten Football Championship Games, edging Michigan State in the inaugural game in 2011 before defeating Nebraska last season.
