Women's Fund of Central Indiana has awarded nearly $400,000 in grants to 18 area organizations. The money will support efforts to help women and girls in areas including health and economic empowerment.

Indianapolis, Ind. — Women's Fund of Central Indiana has awarded grants of $391,082 to 18 organizations serving women and girls in central Indiana. This brings Women’s Fund's total investment to central Indiana nonprofits to more than $5 million, representing a significant investment in the greatest needs and critical issues facing women and girls and ensuring their success. This year's grants were disbursed to a broad selection of organizations focused on serving the needs of women and girls in relation to caregiving, domestic violence, economic empowerment, self-development and health – issues that, based on Women's Fund research, are central to women and girls achieving success, overcoming obstacles and strengthening the community.

“Women's Fund of Central Indiana is the only foundation focused solely on the future of women and girls in our community, making it our responsibility to strategically invest in the organizations and programs that make the greatest impact,” said Jennifer Pope Baker, executive director of Women’s Fund. “It is our privilege to provide grants totaling more than $5 million that will create positive change for women and girls.”

The 2013 grant recipients include:

• Alternatives Inc. – $25,000 for operating support for emergency shelter

• Boone County Community Clinic – $15,000 for medical services for women through HER program

• Center for Victim and Human Rights – $25,000 for legal services to victims of domestic violence through the Protective Order Project

• Christamore House – $20,000 for services to women through the organization’s Family Strengthening department

• Coburn Place Safe Haven – $25,000 for operating support for victims of domestic violence

• Families First Indiana – $20,000 to support the organization’s Women’s Trauma Chemical Dependency Group

• G.L.A.M. – $20,000 to provide operating support for life skills and mentoring program for at-risk girls

• Girls Inc. of Shelbyville & Shelby County – $25,000 to provide operating support for girls’ programming

• Indiana Latino Institute – $25,000 to provide support of young female drop outs with children through their Women Reaching Higher program

• Indiana Prison College Program – $15,000 to provide support of college education for women at Indiana Women’s Prison

• John P. Craine House – $25,000 for operating support to support ex-offenders and their young children

• Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic – $15,000 to provide legal services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and trafficking through the organization’s Victim Justice program

• Peace Learning Center – $15,000 to support Peace plans for mothers of at-risk children

• Planned Parenthood of Indiana – $25,000 to provide sexual health education for teen girls and at-risk women

• Seeds of Hope – $20,000 to provide operating support for transitional housing to chemically dependent women

• Shelby Community Health Center – $25,000 to provide female-specific medical services for women

• The Villages of Indiana – $10,500 to provide soft skills training for females transitioning out of foster care

• Trinity Free Clinic – $15,000 for medical services to women

• Emergency Reserve Fund – $25,000

• OPTIONS Alumnae Scholarship Fund – $25,000 to provide scholarships to women who would not otherwise be able to attend college

The breakdown of the $391,082 grants awarded includes: $25,000 benefiting caregiving, $90,000 benefiting domestic violence, $96,082 benefiting economic empowerment, $35,000 benefiting self-development, $120,000 benefiting health and $25,00 benefiting Women’s Fund reserve fund. Three of the 20 grant recipients are new agencies to Women’s Fund. Since 1999, Women’s Fund has awarded 343 grants to 107 women and girl serving nonprofit organizations in central Indiana.

“At Women's Fund, we believe strong women mean strong communities,” said Julie Manning Magid, chair of the Advisory Board for Women's Fund. “Through these grants, we are able to address critical issues that affect our whole community.”
