AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) has expanded 4G LTE coverage in parts of central Indiana. The company has upgraded more than a dozen cell sites in Marion, Shelby and Johnson counties. November 13, 2013

News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – As part of its continuing network investment and ongoing 4G LTE rollout, AT&T has upgraded 13 additional mobile Internet cell sites near I-65 and I-74 south of Indianapolis to expand AT&T 4G LTE coverage for area residents, businesses and travelers.

Towns included in the AT&T 4G LTE expansion include Franklin, Shelbyville, Acton, Boggstown, Fairland, Wanamaker, Whiteland and New Whiteland, northern Edinburgh and southern Greenwood. An additional cell site in Trafalgar has also been upgraded to AT&T 4G LTE, bringing the total to 14.

AT&T has the nation's fastest and most reliable 4G LTE network. AT&T 4G LTE is the latest generation of wireless network technology and provides several benefits for local residents, including faster mobile Internet speeds – up to 10 times faster than 3G, improved performance, reliability and innovative new 4G LTE-compatible devices.

AT&T launched its ultra-fast 4G LTE network in Indianapolis in Nov. 2011. The new cell sites are one part of AT&T's ongoing efforts to expand 4G LTE coverage and to drive investment and innovation to deliver the nation's best, most advanced mobile Internet experience for customers.

“For Indiana to be a player in the global economy, we have to recognize that companies and individuals around the world are doing business using devices that fit in the palm of their hand,” said State Sen. Greg Walker. “Enabling Hoosiers to access the fastest wireless speeds available will allow them to stay on the leading edge of economic growth opportunities in the coming years.”

“The success of the communities I serve, and Indiana as a whole, depends on a thriving business community. When companies like AT&T invest in necessary infrastructure required by both businesses and consumers alike, they are encouraging and supporting our efforts to boost job growth and expand our local economy,” said State Rep. Sean Eberhart.

“Our goal is for our customers to have an extraordinary experience, and they'll be able to download, upload, stream and game faster than ever before on our 4G LTE network,” said Bill Soards, president of AT&T Indiana. “As part of these area communities, we’re always looking for new opportunities to provide enhanced coverage, and our investment in the local wireless network is another way we’re accomplishing that.”

AT&T's 4G Network

This upgrade of 14 additional mobile internet cell sites is part of AT&T's Project Velocity IP (VIP), a three-year investment plan announced last fall to expand and enhance its IP broadband networks. Through this investment, AT&T is supporting its customers' growing desire for high-speed Internet access and new mobile, app and cloud-based services. As part of Project VIP, AT&T plans to add more than 10,000 macro cell sites nationwide by year-end 2015, as well as deploy more than 40,000 small cells and add more than 1,000 Distributed Antenna Systems to increase the density of its wireless network.
