The West Lafayette City Council is set to vote tonight on a plan to spend $200,000 to help support a passenger train line to Chicago. Mayor John Dennis says the Hoosier State Line is a “lifeline” for many Purdue University students who need to travel to Chicago O'Hare International Airport to fly home. If approved, Dennis tells our partners at Network Indiana/WIBC he would like to see more daily trains and better service for passengers. West Lafayette joins Indianapolis, Crawfordsville, Rensselaer, Lafayette, Beech Grove, Tippecanoe County and the Indianapolis Department of Transportation in pledging funds to cover the line. Federal funding for the route was scheduled to dry up in October.

In a previous interview on Inside INdiana Business, Dennis said if the Hoosier State Line disappeared, he didn't think it would ever come back. He says around 60 area passengers use the line every trip.
