An executive with a global crowdfunding company will host a seminar in Indianapolis ahead of the 2013 Indiana Governor's Conference for Women. Indiegogo Director of Social Innovation Amy Lesnick will focus on how entrepreneurs can use the platform to raise startup funds.

News Release

Indianapolis, Ind. — Indiana entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to meet with and learn from a national expert in helping businesses raise start-up cash through the use of crowdfunding. Amy Lesnick, director of social innovation for Indiegogo, the world's largest global crowdfunding platform, will hold a seminar for Hoosier entrepreneurs on November 4 in advance of the 2013 Indiana Governor's Conference for Women. The seminar will focus on how entrepreneurs develop and present a successful pitch to potential investors as well as creating a crowdfunding campaign.

“Indiegogo has helped entrepreneurs around the world turn single ideas into high-growth companies,” said David Clark, venture partner at Indianapolis-based Elevate Ventures. “By bringing their expertise to Indiana, we hope to launch the next wave of success stories right here in our state.”

Lesnick's presentation will feature a Hoosier success story. Chesterton resident Julie Bombacino, founder of Just Food, LLC, successfully utilized Indiegogo's crowdfunding platform to raise start-up funds for her company. Just Food provides “real” meals for tube-fed people, including infants. As the mother of a tube-fed child, Bombacino was concerned about the artificial ingredients she was forced to purchase. Instead, she began to blend real foods for her infant. Realizing others shared her concerns, she launched Just Food in 2012. On Bombacino’s behalf, Elevate Ventures connected her with Danae Ringelman, founder of Indiegogo. With coaching, mentoring, and Bombacino’s entrepreneurial acumen, she exceeded her crowdfunding goal in only seven days.

“As a result of my experience with Indiegogo, I was able to not only raise the start-up funds to start a business, I've also become a more informed and better educated entrepreneur,” said Bombacino. Her Indiegogo campaign can be viewed here.

“Crowdfunding is becoming an important tool in every entrepreneur’s start-up kit,” said Lesnick. “We look forward to spreading the power of crowdfunding and meeting Indiana's entrepreneurs. We were impressed with Julie's results and we want to teach others how to achieve the 'go-go factor'.”

The seminar will take place November 4 from 3-5 p.m. ET at the Ivy Tech Corporate College Room ITC4 at 2820 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis. The event is open to men and women interested in entrepreneurship. Please visit www.elevateventures.com for registration information.
