News Release

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has been ranked among the nation’s top colleges for computer science majors, according to a 2013 survey by Affordable College Online (ACO). The ranking considers degree cost, 30-year net salary return and accreditation.

Rose-Hulman was No. 16 on ACO’s list that features the University of California-Berkeley (No. 1), Stanford University (No. 2), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (No. 8), Carnegie Mellon University (No. 12), University of Maryland (No. 17), Worcester Polytechnic Institute (No. 18) and Virginia Tech (No. 19).

ACO noted that computer science programs at top schools “offer tremendous breadth and depth – a wide range of course options with the ability to study at the professional level.”

Earlier, the service ranked Rose-Hulman among U.S. private colleges for return on investment, with a 30-year return of $1.8 million. This statistic was based on a 2011-12 salary survey conducted by the online salary information company PayScale.com.

Regarding Rose-Hulman, ACO stated: “Rose-Hulman has been nationally recognized for having a creative learning environment, a high return on investment and effective career services. Students are prepared to think critically and comprehensively in the computer science major at Rose-Hulman with the knowledge that the discipline is always adopting new ideas and programming languages.”

Affordable Colleges Online provides information to make future students and parents aware of their options for obtaining a degree and, most importantly, for paying for that degree.
