INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The first meeting of the Region 1 Indiana Works Council will be held tomorrow, Friday, October 4, from 10-noon (CDT) at Ivy Tech in Valparaiso (Room D218, 3100 Ivy Tech Drive, Valparaiso). Council members were appointed by Governor Mike Pence on September 18th , and include local business, industry, education and workforce development leaders.
The Works Councils, proposed by Governor Pence and established unanimously by the 2013 General Assembly, are charged with reviewing current career and technical education (CTE) curriculums and outcomes. The goal of the councils are to offer innovative solutions to better align local employer needs and high school students' preparation for successfully entering career or postsecondary education.
The works council agenda will review the purpose and vision for the works council and begin their evaluation of the regional career and technical education (CTE) data for the region. A report evaluating CTE opportunities is due to the governor and State Education Roundtable on November 1.
