Evansville-based Vectren Corp. (NYSE: VVC) has cut the ribbon on a $3.5 million facility in Danville. The utility says it plans to add a small amount of new workers to the 45 already employed at the operations center. September 20, 2013

News Release

DANVILLE, Ind. – Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana-North (Vectren) cut the ribbon Friday at its new, $3.5 million operating center in Danville, located at 2345 East Main Street. The new facility houses approximately 45 employees, primarily in field operations and engineering, who serve customers in the Danville, Crawfordsville, Avon, Brownsburg, Plainfield and Lebanon areas. This building provides additional space to accommodate the hiring of five new positions that will support the ongoing efforts by Vectren to modernize its existing natural gas infrastructure.

Danville becomes Vectren's newest ENERGY STAR certified facility and includes enhancements to information technology infrastructure and vehicle storage to improve customer response time in inclement weather.

“The opening of this operating center marks a special milestone for both the town of Danville and Vectren,” said Mike Roeder, vice president of government affairs and president of Vectren North. “We are proud to make the investment in bricks and mortar as well as technology to help further enhance the service our customers receive.”

The addition of the new structure will add approximately $94,000 to the tax base Vectren pays to the town of Danville.

The construction of the 27,000-square foot facility allows for the efficient consolidation of work and avoids the expense of costly renovations needed to make the former 9,300-square foot building compliant. Vectren plans to sell the vacated operating center. The new building's IT enhancements provide a data backup for company disaster recovery preparedness, large modern table monitor for mapping and work planning, and smart audio visual equipment for employee training.
