News Release
Indianapolis, Ind. — The Indiana Department of Education released statewide IREAD3 data today. The data shows that the 2013 statewide passage rate of the test was 91.1% up from 90.6% in 2012. This data include students that passed the spring, 2013 IREAD3 as well as summer re-tests. “I want to thank the many educators and families who are making reading proficiency a priority throughout Indiana,” said Glenda Ritz, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction. “I am committed to a strong focus on literacy K-12, which is a key indicator of student success.”
“The Department of Education, in partnership with 263 organizations statewide, kicked off the Hoosier Family of Readers initiative this summer and had over 127,000 participants. This program is a step towards building a community of readers where our children and families spend time outside of their school day reading. The Department encourages schools to join the Hoosier Family of Readers by developing their own initiatives to promote and support reading outside of the school day.”
