Transportation officials are slated to hold public meetings this month seeking feedback on a proposed high-speed rail line in northwest Indiana. The events in Lake and Porter counties will focus on possible route alternatives between Chicago and the town of Porter. September 3, 2013

NORTHWEST INDIANA – The Illinois, Indiana (INDOT) and Michigan departments of transportation, in coordination with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), are holding public meetings to obtain feedback on the route alternatives being evaluated between Chicago, IL, and Porter, IN, including the area known as South of the Lake (SOTL). Your input will help determine the alternatives evaluated in the Tier 1 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

What can I expect at the meeting?

– Browse displays about the passenger rail program.

-View route maps showing the SOTL route alternatives.

-Ask questions and discuss the program with staff.

-Learn about the program’s next steps.
