An announcement is set for this morning to confirm the city of Indianapolis will bid to host the 2018 Super Bowl. Several sources tell Inside INdiana Business Indianapolis will launch the effort during an event at Lucas Oil Stadium, which will include Governor Mike Pence, Mayor Greg Ballard and Colts Owner Jim Irsay. The city was the site of the big game in 2012 and a few months later officials announced a conservative economic impact estimate of more than $150 million. During a Studio (i) interview a few months later, Super Bowl Host Committee Chairman Mark Miles discussed the economic impact of the effort. Current Hulman & Co. Chief Executive Officer Mark Miles was the host committee chairman for the 2012 game and told Inside INdiana Business last summer that many of the donors who contributed to Super Bowl 46 were already interested in brining another NFL title game to the city.

As for the economic impact, Miles stated the conservative estimate was based on direct spending from the 116,000 visitors from outside a 50 mile radius to converged on Indianapolis for the game and related activities.

He believed several other factors likely brought that impact figure to more than $370 million.
