An adviser in former Governor Mitch Daniels' administration has joined Ice Miller LLP as an attorney in its public affairs group. Lori Torres served as commissioner of the Indiana Department of Labor.

Indianapolis, Ind. — Ice Miller announces that Lori Torres has joined the Firm as an attorney in the Firm's Public Affairs Group. She concentrates her practice in the areas of public affairs, public policy planning, economic development, real estate and labor and employment, with a focus on state wage and hour issues.

“Lori brings a very unique set of skills to us, having served in important leadership positions in government, community and the not for profit world, and with 20 years of real experience in the practice of law. The need for lawyers with diverse talents to work in complex environments demands that we hire people of her caliber,” said Lacy Johnson, co-chair of Ice Miller's Public Affairs Group.

Torres is a veteran of Indiana state government, having served as a cabinet-level advisor to Gov. Daniels as the commissioner of the Indiana Department of Labor. She was awarded the Governor's Distinguished Service Medal in 2013. Prior to her public service, Torres spent 20 years in private practice in central Indiana. She is a frequent speaker on labor related topics. Torres has authored numerous articles, papers and reports related to her areas of focus. As commissioner, she oversaw the agency's safety investigation of the tragedy at the Indiana State Fair. She is active in Republican politics on the state and local level.

Torres graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University with a double major in political science and telecommunications and Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her juris doctorate from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law cum laude. She a member of the American, Indiana State, Indianapolis and Johnson County bar associations. She is a certified commercial and family law mediator and during her former private practice was an active volunteer in the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic and Johnson County Legal Aid Society. She served in several leadership roles for the National Association of Governmental Labor Officials, including a term as president from 2010-2011.

Torres is also active in her community, serving on the board of directors of Girls Inc. of Greater Indianapolis; volunteering for several local capital campaigns including United Way, Roncalli High School and Our Lady of Greenwood Catholic Church; and volunteering for Super Bowl XLVI.
