WGU Indiana has signed a deal with Indianapolis-based Interactive Intelligence Group Inc. (Nasdaq: ININ). The partnership involves a tuition discount for the software company's employees.

News Release

Indianapolis, Ind. — WGU Indiana, an online, nonprofit university, and its parent, Western Governors University, have signed an agreement with business communications software company, Interactive Intelligence that gives its employees tuition discounts.

Under the terms of the agreement, Interactive Intelligence employees will receive a five percent tuition discount at Western Governors University, including WGU Indiana, for up to four six-month terms. The discount applies to both master's and bachelor's degree programs.

“WGU's innovative model translates into affordable and flexible programs that make it possible for our employees to more easily take their education to the next level,” said Interactive Intelligence Vice President of Human Resources Kim Kean. “Given that our reputation as a software company is built on innovation, we're particularly proud to partner with such a like-minded institution.”

“It's always exciting to partner with companies that value investment in their employees' continued learning and higher degree attainment,” said WGU Indiana Chancellor Allison Barber. “Our partnership with Interactive Intelligence aligns a company steeped in leading-edge technology with our progressive, competency-based education model and creates the opportunity to make our MBA, IT and Business degrees even more accessible to Interactive Intelligence employees.”

Eligible programs under the agreement include the WGU College of Information Technology and College of Business, which includes the WGU MBA program. Tuition at WGU has not increased since 2008 and is charged at a flat rate of $2,890 per six-month term.

WGU's innovative, competency-based education model, which earned the university a spot in Fast Company’s 50 Most Innovative Companies of 2013, measures learning rather than the time a student spends in a classroom seat. Students earn their degrees by demonstrating mastery of subject matter, completing coursework online at any time convenient to their lives. Designed to meet the needs of adult learners, competency-based education allows students to take advantage of prior learning and experience to move quickly through material they already know so they can focus on what they still need to learn.
