Indianapolis, Ind. — After a nationwide search Wishard-Eskenazi Health announces that Parveen Chand, MHA, FACHE has been named chief operating officer (COO). Chand comes to Wishard-Eskenazi Health with 20 years of progressive experience leading health care operations in academic, not-for-profit and for-profit, faith-based and large integrated system settings.
In his role as COO, Chand will have broad administrative responsibility for operations and direct responsibility for radiology and laboratory medicine as well as rehabilitation services. He will report directly to Dr. Lisa Harris, CEO and medical director of Wishard-Eskenazi Health.

Chand most recently served as COO at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. As a member of the senior leadership team of the 334-bed teaching hospital for Creighton University, he had executive responsibility for clinical and non-clinical ancillary services such as pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation services, laboratory, environmental and food services, and plant operations, among many others.
A graduate of St. Louis University where he earned a degree in biology, he completed graduate studies in health administration at Washington University School of Medicine. He has been professionally involved in a number of community organizations including Kiwanis International and Greater St. Louis United Way.

The new Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital and Eskenazi Health campus is scheduled to open December 2013. The new Eskenazi Health campus will include a 315-bed inpatient hospital, more than 200 exam rooms, a 90-bed treatment room emergency department with a 20-bed clinical decision unit, a 110-exam-room multispecialty outpatient care center, a women’s health center, a 2,700-car parking garage, a central energy plant, and offices for faculty, research and administration functions.
For more than 150 years, Wishard-Eskenazi Health has provided high-quality, cost-effective, patient-centered health care to the residents of Marion County. Accredited by The Joint Commission, nationally recognized programs include a Level I trauma center, regional burn center, comprehensive senior care program, women’s and children’s services, teen and adolescent care programs, Eskenazi Health Midtown Community Mental Health, and a network of primary care sites located throughout the neighborhoods of Indianapolis known as Eskenazi Health Center. In partnership with the Regenstrief Institute, Wishard-Eskenazi Health conducts groundbreaking work that leads health information technology around the globe. Wishard-Eskenazi Health also serves as the sponsoring hospital for Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services. As the public hospital division of the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County, Wishard-Eskenazi Health partners with the Indiana University School of Medicine whose physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services. In 2009, Marion County voters approved construction of a new Wishard hospital with 85 percent support for the measure. Wishard received a $40 million gift from Indianapolis’ Sidney and Lois Eskenazi, in honor of whom Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County has named the new hospital facilities. The Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital is slated to open in December 2013, and the name of the health system will change to Eskenazi Health in January 2014.
