The university says because of a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases, it will end face-to-face classes this Friday at both the Vincennes and Jasper campuses.
VU says it will transition to virtual instruction for the remainder of the semester. In-person instruction was scheduled to end November 24.
The school says some exceptions are being made for in-person teaching, including clinical labs and internships.
“While VU has thus far managed to keep the number of COVID cases among employees and students on our campuses and sites relatively low, we are also experiencing increases among faculty, staff, and students who are positive cases, primary contacts, or awaiting test results,” said VU President Chuck Johnson.
Residence halls will remain open through the end of the fall semester, as before, but students are encouraged to move home, if possible.
The university says students who check out of residence halls before the end of the fall semester will receive a pro-rata credit to their account for room and board charges.
After fall break, the virtual classes resume on December 2. The last day of the semester is December 11.
Spring semester begins virtually on January 19. Face-to-face classes start on February 1, 2021.
