INDIANAPOLIS – The AgriNovus Indiana Agbioscience Innovation Summit gets underway Wednesday morning in downtown Indianapolis.

It’s a day full of presentations and discussions on the future of agriculture and producing food for a growing global population.

AgriNovus Indiana is part of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership that focuses on advancing the agbiosciences in the state through innovation and education.

“We’ve done a number of assessments to find out what we can do to help close some gaps. And we’re putting programming in place and something like this summit is one of those key activities where we can kind of bring some focus to some of those new, exciting ideas that we’re going to be making available,” said Dan Dawes, senior director of strategy and innovation for AgriNovus.

The summit draws over 500 industry and agbioscience leaders, entrepreneurs, scientists, and investors.

During one session, a group of four ag-focused startups will go before a panel of “sharks” to pitch their business ideas.

Discussions will also focus on innovation, investment and disruptive technologies in the ag sector.

“Agriculture is in a little bit of a tough space and so I think producers, people in the industry all recognize that they need innovation in order to stay ahead,” said Dawes. “Innovation oftentimes is the answer to some of those challenges.”

The AgriNovus summit is being held at the Marriott in downtown Indianapolis.
