The Jasper-based bank’s funding will result in a new name for the university’s baseball stadium: German American Bank Field at Charles H. Braun Stadium.
Included in the renovation will be a new Astroturf field, padded walls throughout the field with new fence lines down the first and third base lines, along with dugout and bullpen refurbishment and a new LED scoreboard.
Former UE Head Baseball Coach Jim Brownlee said the program has progressed since he coached from 1980-2002. "I think back to 1979 when we did not have dugouts and the worst playing surface in America! We have come a long way in 40 years!"
Renovations are expected to take 2 to 3 months to complete, with a groundbreaking in the early fall. A dedication will be held later this year.
