INDIANAPOLIS - One of the largest conventions in Indiana officially gets underway Wednesday. The annual FDIC International, or Fire Department Instructors Conference, is expected to draw more than 34,000 people to the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium.

The event is expected to draw fire and rescue professionals from more than 65 countries to downtown Indianapolis, according to the FDIC website. The conference has generated more than $30 million in economic impact in previous years, according to Visit Indy.

Several pre-conference events have already taken place, however the opening ceremonies are set to begin Wednesday. The conference will feature workshops, classroom sessions, and competitions throughout the week.
