Interim IPS Superintendent Named ‘Future Chief’

Operated by Washington D.C.-based Chiefs for Change, the program includes state and district education leaders who are "strategic systems-builders clearly focused on excellence and equity."
Johnson joins nine other education leaders from throughout the country for the year-long program of collective learning. Chiefs for Change, a bipartisan network of state and district education chiefs, says the program focuses on issues that are central to effective leadership.
"These Future Chiefs are already making a tangible difference for students across the country, and Aleesia is no exception," said Mike Magee, chief executive officer of Chiefs for Change. "We’re impressed by her commitment to the Indianapolis community and her relentless drive to do the right thing for students and families."
Chiefs for Change says, of the 25 leaders involved in the first three Future Chiefs cohorts, one third have become superintendents or state chiefs. The fourth cohort participants will be recognized at the Future Chiefs Cohort Four launch event in Washington D.C. next month.
Johnson took over as interim IPS superintendent in January following the resignation of former superintendent Lewis Ferebee, who stepped down to become chancellor of District of Columbia Public Schools.
